The Hoosier Prairie has been a National Natural Landmark since 1977. In addition to being a part of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore,this state nature preserve is also protected by the State of Indiana and the National Park Service.

The prairie can be found in the southeastern Lake County of Indiana,approximately 30 minutes south from Chicago. The State of Indiana owns the prairie and it is managed by U.S. National Park Service. This preserve contains 350 plant species,including prairie parsley,wild white indigo,and mesic sand prairie.
